Since the club was established in 1967 we have always been on the competition circuit. To become a boxer takes a lot of blood, sweat and tears to coin a phrase. The average person will take over a year to reach the minimum standard to enter the ring.
To become a boxer with us is by invite by our head-coach backed up by his team. Boxing is a very hard sport, and as they say “You don’t play at boxing”
A normal path for an invite would be, through the GB boxing tutor awards or dedication in the fitness and boxing basics classes.
To compete you need to be eleven and under thirty four under ABAE rules. In truth don’t leave it too late to start.
You must be prepared not to rush and you will need to adjust your lifestyle and be totally focussed and committed.
Once at a certain standard you will be asked to have your medical to gain your boxing licence or ME3 card. Without this you don’t box.
Good luck, commit and do your best, but remember swimmers get wet and boxers get hit!!
Please see ABAE rules in our forms and download section for more information.
